Relationships and Sex Education
‘I have come that you might have life and have it to the full’ (Jn.10.10)
At St Francis de Sales Catholic Infant and Nursery School, we believe that every child deserves a broad and balanced curriculum that supports their academic, personal, social and spiritual development. Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) is an important part of this, helping children to understand themselves, develop positive relationships, manage their emotions and make healthy and responsible choices.
As a Catholic school, we teach RSE within the context of our faith and our belief in the dignity and uniqueness of every person. We recognise that RSE is a sensitive area of learning and ensure that it is taught in an age-appropriate, respectful and supportive way, taking account of the needs and development of our pupils.
We follow the Archdiocese of Liverpool’s recommended ‘A Journey in Love’ programme, which provides a clear and age-appropriate approach to RSE rooted in Catholic teaching. Through this programme, children are supported to grow in understanding of themselves, others and the importance of loving, respectful relationships.
