Mathmagicians

NSPCC- crazy hair day for the NSPCC Number day. Thankyou for all your excellent efforts with crazy hair day and for your generous donations to the very worthy charity. The Mathmagicians counted the donations and we raised over £400 pounds.

Nursery- In Nursery, the children have been feeding the greedy monkey lots of different fruits. They used tens frames to make the amount of fruit fed to the monkey and matched it to some numicon pieces too.

Look at some of these great examples of maths and maths in other subjects around our school.

Careers day..

The children enjoyed dressing up to show everybody what their dream job would be. We used this opportunity to talk about how we use maths in different ways in different jobs. We also had Scott from the LFC foundation share a school assembly about different jobs within football and how maths is important, as well as an accountant in Year 2. Have a look at some of the children’s ideas.

Reception enjoy playing games that use maths. They had to throw three balls and count up their score, these boys did it quickly and used mental methods without any written strategies. Well done.

Reception use egg boxes as tens frames to help them learn about numbers 11-20. They are starting to recognise 1 ten and 1 as 11, one ten and 2 as twelve, one ten and three as thirteen etc,

This week, Year 2 have been the measuring length and height of different objects using centimetres (cm) and Metres (m).

Year Two have been exploring the equivalence of one half and two quarters. By cutting shapes into halves and quarters, the children clearly visualised and understood that “two quarters are the same as one half”.

Fractions in Year 2. The children have started exploring the fraction ‘half’. They created these maths museums to show their understanding of various representations of half. They also recognised what is not half. Well done.

Chinese New Year in Reception.

WOW: Look at all these amazing entries into this years Math’vent challenge. Well done to our three winners and to Mrs Roberts for helping to choose the winners.
