Statement on the Teaching of Relationships & Sex Education
The Governors at St Francis de Sales Catholic Infant and Nursery School have adopted ‘A Journey in Love’ as the scheme to teach Relationships and Sex Education across our school – an age and stage appropriate curriculum which is recommended by the Archdiocese.
Although, as a parent, you do have the right to withdraw your child from this aspect of the curriculum, the way RSE is taught during the formative years of education means that it is interwoven into other subjects such as PSHE. It is, therefore, difficult to remove children from their learning and it is not something that we would recommend. RSE is not to be confused with the Science curriculum which is statutory.
The content of ‘Journey in Love’ is discussed annually at Parent Information Meetings in the Autumn term. For more information, please also see our RSE policy, Curriculum overviews and the letter to parents on our website.
If you require further clarification regarding this aspect of the curriculum please contact: Miss Suffield, Headteacher, Mrs Melia, Deputy Head Teacher or Miss O’Kane, RE Coordinator.
Cafod Share the Journey Walk
On 19th June, Angela and Justine came from CAFOD to lead our Share the Journey walk - we reflected on the plight of our neighbours around the world who have had to leave their homes, and with Cafod's help they are rebuilding their lives so that they are safer and happier. Our Nursery children brought the total miles our school walked up to 24 miles, walking in their key groups and hearing the stories of Dainer, Ruth, Mohammed and Halima, children being helped by Cafod.
Nursery's Stay and Pray
Our Wonderful World was the theme for our Stay and Pray in Nursery this week! Thanks so much to Fr Ged and our parents and carers who came along to make this such a special time to reflect on what we love about our world and how we can care for it.
Reception's Stay and Pray
Reception children enjoyed reflecting on our job to take care of God's creatures, especially mini-beasts, which they have been learning about. Thanks to Fr Ged and to all parents and carers for coming along for this special Stay and Pray session.

We have had a week of lovely Easter celebrations and the children have shown great understanding of our Easter message, "love one another as I have loved you". Thank you to everyone who joined us for the assemblies and trip to church and thank you also to Fr Ged for joining us for all of the assemblies. Below, is a selection of photos from throughout the week.
St Francis de Sales Feast Day
On the 24th January, we celebrated the Feast Day of St Francis de Sales with our very special school family. St. Francis loved God, learning and during his life tried very hard to share his love and his learning with his friends and all the people he met. We are trying to be like St Francis each day in our school. Our Mission Statement shows this- "We walk, learn, love and smile together with Jesus".
We have been celebrating Harvest Festival in church and school. Every class played a part in the celebration by bringing in food donations.
Here are some photographs of R.E being practiced in school.
